Dilith Jayaweera, through his lawyer Saman Senadeera, has fired a letter of demand to MTV Channel Ltd’s Director R. Rajamahendran over the latter’s telecast of news allegedly damaging to the former’s reputation.
The move follows Sirasa News First on Sunday airing a six-minute news item highlighting various allegations against Jayaweera’s businesses and investments as well as the Financial Crime Investigation Division questioning him on Friday.
Jayaweera’s lawyer has said his client found the news item untrue, highly damaging to his credibility and contrary to best media practices, hence he has demanded Rs. 2 billion as compensation as well as equal coverage for contents in his Letter of Demand.
Failure to adhere to the request of his client, his lawyer has said would be followed by legal action.
