The United States Embassy in Sri Lanka on Thursday marked America’s Independence Day, which falls on 4 July, at a ceremony held at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo.
Sri Lankan Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama was the chief guest at the occasion, organised under the patronage of US Chargéd’Affaires ad Interim Andrew Mann.
Marking the occasion, the acting ambassador raised a toast to Minister Amunugama, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and the “enduring friendship” between the two countries.
“The road ahead for our two countries is indeed full of new possibilities,” Mann said in a Twitter message.
The theme of this year’s festival was ‘Route 66’ which means a pathway to hope and the possibility of a new beginning for multiple generations of American families.
A cultural show depicting the cultures of Sri Lanka and the United States was the event’s highlight.
Several Ministers, heads of diplomatic missions and officials took part in the event.
