All candidates representing political parties contesting the forthcoming general election must submit statements of assets and liabilities on or before 5 August, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said in a statement.
The deadline given earlier for the submission of assets and liabilities has been extended in order to avoid difficulties that will be encountered by candidates who send in their applications through post due to the Poya holiday falling on 31 July and 1 and 2 August being a weekend.
Accordingly, candidates representing all political parties should submit their Statements of Assets and Liabilities on or before 5 August, the commissioner has stated.
Deshapriya has pointed out that the deadline was extended as per a decision taken at a meeting held with political party representatives on 28 July 2015.
Transparency International Sri Lanka on Sunday said almost 60% of the candidates contesting the parliamentary election had so far submitted their Assets and Liability Declarations.
