Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa issuing a statement on the demise of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero said the Thero was a brave leader who had gained huge respect from all Sri Lankans.
Citing the Thero’s reputable service of serving people during the period of the war and post war, Rajapaksa said the Thero was the one of main characters behind the war victory.
Commenting on the Thero’s political journey, Rajapaksa stated Sobitha Thero was a frontline revolutionary against the cultural decadence which occurred due to the open economy in 1980s.
The statement added: “I knew him since I was a student in Vidyodaya University and our association was at the same level until his demise. I visited him when he was ill and he treated me with a warm welcome.”
“I wish the Thero may attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana,” he continued.
