Politicians, Government officials, trade union leaders, civil society leaders and professionals will took to the streets in Colombo today (9) to voice against corruption and bribery.
The Commission for Inquire in to Allegation of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) along with the Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) and civil organisations have put together a national event to be held in Independence Square to mark the United Nations Anti-Corruption day which falls today. Several civil society organisations and trade unions too will join a special walk and an awareness program.
The walk and the awareness program will be held under the patronage of the President Maithreepala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinge.
The walk will commence from the Viharamahadevi Park at 3p.m. and proceed to the Independence Square where a special awareness program scheduled to begin at 4p.m.
An integrity oath will be taken from all the politicians and state officials who also take part in the event to show their opposition to corruption.
Apart from this CIABOC will announce a seven step strategy to prevent corruption happening in public sector and special amendment to the Assets and Liabilities act will also be handover to the President and the Prime Minister by the Executive Director of the TISL. I paid a bribe website also will be launched at the event.
Shan Wijethunge the senior manager of TISL requests all those who are willing to eradicate corruption from the country to take part in this national event.
