Sri Lanka Parliament will launch a mobile app today connecting the public and the lawmakers.
The new app compatible with iOS, Android, and Windows smart phones will allow people to get in touch with the lawmakers directly, watch the proceedings live, and give access to documentary and video archives.
Parliament’s Director - Information Systems & Management Mahesh Perera told Daily FT the app will add Sri Lanka as the 11th Parliament among a list of 189 to have an app bridging the gap between the law makers and the public.
“We have taken the increasing smartphone use in the country into consideration to develop this app. There is a high potential for a Parliament app. We have developed the platform to suite the Parliament and its tasks. We are also looking at the possibilities of providing the access to online interpretations through this app,” he said.
The ceremonial launch of the first ever official Mobile App of the Parliament of Sri Lanka will be held today at 10.00 a.m. at the Committee Room no. 1 of Parliament with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest.
