Official statistics updates on Twitter

The Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) provides various socio economic and demographic statistics to data users covering a wide spectrum from students, researchers to policymakers and international agencies. DCS produce statistics on regular basis from different sources, including censuses, surveys and administrative records.

Currently the Department of Census and Statistics uses printed and electronic publications, official website and mass media channels to disseminate statistics and various statistical reports.

The Department of Census and Statistics said it will use social media to disseminate updates on release of statistics. Instant updates on the release of statistics are available on DCS Twitter account @lankaSTAT. It further stated that all interested parties would be able to receive these updates by following the twitter account @lankaSTAT.

DCS commenced dissemination of updates on Twitter with the release of National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) and Inflation covering the month of February 2016 on 21 March.

DCS will also continue to provide press releases in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages. Press releases of the DCS provide easy access to journalists and others through the ‘Press Releases’ tab on the official website. The official website of the Department is www.statistics.gov.lk.
