The latest nationwide survey conducted by research firm TNS Lanka, for business magazine LMD, reveals that citizens are “unsure whether things are good, bad or ugly – uncertainty is certainly on the minds of the people of Sri Lanka”.
The magazine noted that, according to the poll results, a slim majority (52%) acknowledge that the Government has performed well thus far, while 38% reject this claim and 10% are sitting on the fence.
“Among the responses garnered are comments to the effect that the Government ‘is doing a good job of governing the country’ and that ‘by reducing prices of food and other amenities, it has won the hearts of the people.’ However, the naysayers contend that the incumbent Administration has become a puppet of foreign countries,” explains LMD.
Of the sample population, 46% of respondents uphold the view that the National Unity Government is keeping its election promises, while a majority of 63% disagree or are unsure.
As for what the course of action the National Unity Government should now take, a spokesperson for LMD explains that “the citizens offer a three-pronged strategy for the future: boost development and provide more concessions, develop the economy and pay attention to the people’s needs.”
The latest edition of the pioneering business magazine has been released to leading supermarkets and bookstores in Colombo and the outstations.
Its April Cover Story features Kasturi Chellaraja Wilson – who LMD says is one of contemporary Sri Lanka’s most prominent women in business – and her insights into the logistics sector and its role in the big picture scheme of things (for the full story, log onto www.LMD.lk).
