For we l l over 56 years, the Inst itute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) has been producing world class Chartered Accountants, who steer not only businesses in Sri Lanka but also overseas. Chartered Accountants produced by CA Sri Lanka are not only respected by society and corporates, but are also considered a unique breed of professionals, who are well versed in technical and management skills, which has led them moving from conventional number crunching positions to leadership rolls across leading board rooms. The Chartered Accounting qualification offered by CA Sri Lanka has always remained relevant in the ever evolving and challenging complex, which has helped remain the choice of present global business leaders, as well as aspiring global business leaders. The Institute is today one of the country’s most respected professional organisations, with a membership of over 4900 globally sought after Chartered Accountants, while it is also a leading tertiary education provider outside the national university system with over 44,000 aspiring Chartered Accountants
CA Sri Lanka Qualification
In 2015, the newly revamped, groundbreaking CA qualification came into effect. The qualification titled ‘Partnering Businesses Through Financial Leadership’ will produce a unique breed of Chartered Accountants for 2020 and beyond who will be multi-faceted professionals having the ability to create value, enable value, preserve value and report value to the organization they serve. The Curriculum 2015 is structured around three pillars, namely, Knowledge, Skills and Personal, and is offered at three levels of competency, namely; Executive, Business and Corporate. The Executive Level provides the fundamentals of accounting and harnesses the skills and professional values needed to mould a Business Accountant, while the Business Level builds technical abilities whilst enhancing interpersonal and communication skills and problem resolution skills as required of a Senior Business Accountant. The ultimate Corporate Level produces a CA professional fully equipped with the required knowledge, skills and personality to be a corporate leader. The curriculum 2015 also addresses important areas, such as enhanced interpersonal, communication and IT skills, which will help produce holistic professionals who will steer businesses across multiple sectors, along with their technical know-how which Chartered Accountants are well known for. The ul timate aim of the new curriculum is to produce Chartered Accountants who will be able to partner businesses in achieving its goals through financial leadership
Practical training
Practical training is an important component in the journey to become a Chartered Accountant. The practical training helps students gain hands on experience at the work place which allows them to excel in the corporate world, once they progress to be qualified Chartered Accountants. The practical training scheme has been revamped along with the new curriculum and the new training requirements in line with the International Accounting Education Standards for developing professional competence for aspiring professional accountants and based on the stakeholder expectation from a professional Chartered Accountant. The curriculum 2015 encourages practical training in the form of on-the-job training along with studies in a bid to empower students with relevant professional skills, knowledge, attitudes and behavior required of a qualified Chartered Accountant. CA Sri Lanka enjoys training agreements with over 600 training partners at present, and the training partners comprise of organisations across multiple sectors, including leading conglomerates, as well as internationally reputed companies.
CA Sri Lanka members
Members are considered the primary stakeholders of the Institute. Today, the institute is powered by an impressive membership of over 4900, with at least 35 percent of the membership enjoying leadership roles across the country’s corporate world. A significant percentage of CA Sri Lanka members also serve in top positions overseas spread across nearly 40 countries, including Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America, and the Middle East.
Guru Nena and Sisu Nena
Educational Programmes
In its capacity as a leading tertiary education provider, CA Sri Lanka conducts regular knowledge sharing seminars for the benefit of the country’s student population as well as the teacher population, by way of organizing the Sisu Nena and Guru Nena seminar series, where students and teachers are educated on various topical matters in relation to the GCE Advanced Level syllabus, on accounting, and matters related to the Sri Lanka Accounting Standards, among others.
Global presence
As a globally recognised accounting body, CA Sri Lanka enjoys close partnership with some of the world’s leading accounting organisations, and is a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Confederation of Asian & Pacific Accountants (CAPA) and a founder member of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA).
Information Centres
For the benefit of its mammoth student population located across the country, the Institute has also set up regional information centres in each province. The information centres which are located in Matara, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Jaffna and Kalmunai helps students obtain relevant information with regard to the CA Sri Lanka qualification, as well as obtain information n upcoming examinations, among other services.
