The anti-corruption commission yesterday questioned the wife of former Parliamentarian Sajin Vass Gunawardena over purchasing a Benz car for Rs. 6.5 million.
She was questioned for two hours by the Police investigators of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC).
A spokesman for the Commission said that the vehicle was purchased for a company named Cosmos Technologies, which belongs to Vass Gunawardena.
“PRECIFAC is investigating whether public money was misused in purchasing the vehicle,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has been summoned to appear before the public hearing of the PRECIFAC schedule to be held on Friday.
He will testify before PRECIFAC Commissioners - High Court Judges Padman Surasena, Amendra Seneviratna, Vikum Kaluarachchi, Gihan Kulatunga and former Auditor General B.A. Premathilake, over allegations of misusing Divi Neguma funds for chartering Sri Lanka Air Force helicopters for his use during his time as a minister.
