President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday pledged that funds received for development will be transparently invested during his tenure without fraud or corruption.
“Instructions have been given to the relevant officials to complete the projects started with those funds on time and in keeping with high quality standards,” he said.
Priority will be given to providing drinking water, enhancing infrastructure facilities and developing education and agriculture, he said, adding that his aim is to provide similar opportunities for development in all parts of the country.
ADB representatives headed by its Vice President Wencai Zhang called on President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday at his official residence.
“The Government is paying attention on a priority basis to Nothern development where they were deprived of development for 26 years,” he told officials.
Sri Lanka is a founder member of the ADB and has maintained relations with Sri Lanka for 50 years. It has provided $7.9 billion for the development of the country.
