President removes D.V Upul, puts Gunasena

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday removed Southern Provincial Councilor D.V. Upul from his position of Southern Provincial Council Fisheries, Livestock, Environment, Electricity and Rural Industries Minister and appointed the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Provincial Councilor H.W. Gunasena for the portfolio.

Gunasena assumed his duties yesterday.

Upul was on bail after being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in June 2015 over allegations of making several controversial comments including threatening to stone Police officers of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).
