Top experts to share latest threats, challenges to cyber security next week

Several global and local experts will share key insights on the latest threats and challenges to the cyber security of companies, institutions and individuals next week at the fourth annual summit organised jointly by the Daily FT and CICRA Consultancies.

Dedicated this year to focusing on the internal and external threats and challenges confronting organisations, the one-day 2016 Cyber Security Summit on 9 August will be held at Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel Colombo.

Among the international experts who will share useful insights are Michael RK Mudd - Managing Partner, Asia Policy Partners LLC, Hong Kong; Prof. Matthew Warren - Deputy Director, Deakin University Centre for Cyber, Security Research, Deakin University, Australia; Dr. Matteo Luchetti - Project Manager, Cyber Crime Program Office of the Council of Europe (C-PROC), Romania; Pravin Sirinivasan - Head of Security Sales, India and SARRC, Cisco; and Niranjan Reddy - cybercrime expert and Founder & CTO at NetConclave Systems.

Additionally, several local experts will serve on different panels at the summit. 

Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando will be the Chief Guest while Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy will be the Guest of Honour. ICT Agency Managing Director/CEO Muhunthan Canagey will also speak along with Microsoft Sri Lanka Country Manager Brian Kealy, Dialog Axiata Group CIO and Axiata Group Digital Services CTO Anthony Rodrigo and ICT Agency Director & Legal Advisor and Member of the Cybercrime Convention Committee (T-CY) of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg Jayantha Fernando.

A top level invitees-only CEOs Forum on 8 August focusing on making cyber security a board room agenda will precede the summit. 

As per the 2016 Vormetric Data Threat Report, 91% of global organisations feel vulnerable to data threats; enterprises and governments are focusing on compliance ahead of breach prevention and they also invest in technologies that do not prevent data breaches. But the real data breaches are caused due to The Insider Threat, the report revealed.

The main objective of this summit is to create awareness over the importance of cyber security and to provide top officers in the Government, top corporate management, IT professionals and technical infusion of the participants with best practices in acquiring, implementing, managing and measuring information security postures of their organisations as well as initiating countermeasures. 

The summit will also highlight the latest flaws in information security affecting the global community including corporations and governments. Discussions and presentations will revolve around some of the most malicious attacks and potential threats surrounding the security field.
