Ljubljana: Sri Lanka and Republic of Slovenia have agreed to strengthen the political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on political and economic cooperation, during the Minister’s visit to Slovenia to attend the Bled Forum.
The MOU calls for promotion, strengthening and expanding the political, economic, consular, technological and scientific, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Erjavec said that the first meetings concerning the memorandum would be held next year in Sri Lanka.
A proposal made by Minister Samaraweera to sign the MoU during his official visit to Slovenia from 4-8 September, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Minister Samaraweera was invited by Minister Erjavec to attend the Bled Strategic Forum 2016: ‘Safeguarding the Future’ held from 5-6 September.
Bilateral events on the agenda of the Minister Samaraweera during the visit include meetings with the Slovenian Prime Minister and President, including his Slovenian counterpart and Minister of Economic Development and Technology. The Minister is also expected to address the International Institute for Middle East and Balkan Studies in Ljubljana.
