A proposal to establish a multimodal transport hub to deal with increasing traffic congestion in the Battaramulla area was approved by Cabinet this week.
In proposing the project, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka informed Cabinet that with the relocation of all government administrative bodies to the area, vehicular traffic in the road network had increased and needed to be addressed. To mitigate the issue, a multimodal transport hub with bus, light rail transits, elevated highways and internal water transportation has been proposed to facilitate the increasing demand. Accordingly, the proposal to implement the mixed development project adjacent to ‘Suhurupaya’ with a public-private partnership including multimodal transport hub, office space of 113,000 square feet, residential flats of 33,000 square feet and commercial space of 60,000 square feet was approved by the Cabinet.
