Businessman and musician Aruna Siriwardena has been appointed as the new Joint Managing Director of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
He replaces top professional Keith Bernard who was appointed to the post in November 2015. The other Joint MD at SLIC is ex-Police officer Bangsa Jayah.
Sources said the appointment of Siriwardena was by the Finance Ministry though SLIC, which comes under the Ministry of Enterprise Development, a portfolio held by Kabir Hashim.
Aruna, son of former top civil servant D. B. I. P. S. Siriwardena and author and educationist Eileen, was responsible for bringing in US Millicom International in the late 1980s to launch Sri Lanka’s first cellular network Celltel.
