Kurunegala district United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara has said work on the Volkswagen vehicle assembly plant to be established in the Kuliyapitiya area will commence on 3 January under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The MP said MAS Holdings will also open a manufacturing plant in Mattegama, Kurunegala on the same day.
In addition, a large manufacturing plant will be opened in Horana with the collaboration of local and Italian investors. The plant will provide 3,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs to youth in the area, the MP said.
MP Bandara further said that a number of new industries are scheduled to start next year and several projects including the Kurunegala Municipal Development Project, the Chilaw Kalpitiya Tourism Zone, Kuliyapitiya, the Pannala Ingiriya Industrial City, and the Madampe Iranawila Bingiriya Economic Tourism Zone will be launched to turn the island nation into a developed country.
