President Maithripala Sirisena as the Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation declared National Integration and Reconciliation Week from 8 to 14 January every year from 2017, with the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers.
All schools were requested to give importance to the unity, harmony, national integration and reconciliation by commitment to the declaration on national integration and reconciliation issued by the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation.
Leader of the Opposition R. Sampanthan participated as Chief Guest and State Minister of Education Radhakrishnan, State Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation A.H.M. Fowzie, Secretary to the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation V. Sivagnanasothy, Vivekananda College Principal Ramiah and senior officials of the Ministry participated in the program held at the Vivekananda College on 10 January at 9 a.m.
