Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that people’s support is essential to move forward the government’s good governance program.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the BMICH in Colombo, the Premier said some people are blaming the government as to why it has not created good governance fulfilling the pledge given during the election. However, the present administration has launched a process of good governance.
Normally if politicians are under accusations, then he or she should resign from the post, he said. For the first time in Sri Lanka two ministers have resigned within two and half years. But they were not found guilty so far.
In countries with improved democracy, if there are charges against any politician then a final decision would be taken after stepping down from the post temporarily, the Premier said.
The Prime Minister also pointed out the need to implement proper economic plan to steer the country towards prosperity. He said that Sri Lanka needs immediate restructuring as the global economic changes have intensified. A strong economic, social and political framework should be prepared to have economic prosperity, the Premier said adding that well-planned short term and long term measures will be taken for this purpose. However, he cautioned that the process will take time.
The Prime Minister assured that Sri Lanka will be made a country without corruption and malpractices under this government.
