Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka, an international non-profit organisation dedicated towards providing every family in Sri Lanka with a safe and stable place to call home, appointed Daraz Managing Director Rakhil Fernando as its Goodwill Ambassador. The announcement significantly took place on 1 December, widely known as ‘Giving Tuesday’ – a global day of generosity and charity.
Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka is no stranger to Rakhil Fernando and Daraz, as it has been an active charity partner on Daraz Cares, the CSR arm of Sri Lanka’s largest online marketplace. With a mission ‘to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope’, Habitat for Humanity has dedicated its efforts and resources to building a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Throughout its 26 years of operations in Sri Lanka, Habitat for Humanity has sought to build ‘Partnerships with Purpose’ with socially conscious corporates, businesses and educational institutions. These partnerships provide essential financial resources, in-kind support, and volunteers enabling Habitat Sri Lanka to create a bigger impact through its work across the country.
Speaking at the event, Fernando commented, “I am honoured to be taking up the role of Goodwill Ambassador of Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka, and thereby actively promoting their vision and mission of creating a better society. Our association through Daraz Cares has been effective in channelling worthy contributions to the organisation’s efforts, and we will continue to drive this more effectively with this partnership, leveraging on our position as a business leader in e-commerce.”
Through his role as a Goodwill Ambassador, Fernando will continue his efforts in helping Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing for all, and raise much-needed funds and resources to support more low-income families in Sri Lanka break the cycle of poverty.
