Sri Lanka’s leader in innovative, technology-driven and research-based education, Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) recently partnered with the Singapore campus of Australia’s prestigious James Cook University (JCU).
Under the new initiative, SLTC offers many pathways for Sri Lankan students who wish to obtain the globally recognised JCU bachelor’s degree of tourism, hospitality and events. The partnership provides opportunities to obtain dual degrees in tourism, hospitality and events, and travel and tourism management by studying the last two years of their degree program in Singapore after completing the first two years at SLTC or study one year at SLTC and the other two years in Singapore to obtain the JCU degree. The SLTC students will be given another option to study a few subjects in Singapore to acquire international experience.
Commenting on the new partnership, SLTC Founder and President/CEO Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe said: “James Cook University is a prestigious high-ranking university and we are privileged to be their local partner. We are committed to giving the future of Sri Lanka the best of what the world has to offer in terms of higher education, right at home, for a fair and affordable price – this has been SLTC’s vision from the inception.”
He added: “In the short span we have been operational, SLTC has carved a niche as being a private Sri Lankan campus of uncompromised quality. We are very diligent about the institutions we endorse and partner with. In our extensive research, we have discovered JCU to be a university with an impressive track record which includes ranking in the top 2% of Universities in the world based on the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).”
JCU Singapore Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Chew said: “With the tourism, hospitality and events industry undergoing unprecedented change, this partnership presents those who choose this pathway an opportunity to redefine the industry for the contemporary world and devise innovative solutions to challenges at hand. We welcome SLTC students to further their studies with us and add to our already diverse student population.”
The Singapore campus of James Cook University was established in 2003 as the first international campus of JCU outside of Australia. SLTC students progressing to JCU’s Singapore campus can be assured of the same quality of education on par with students in JCU Australia. At JCU, education is a collaborative process where students and academics work alongside in a dynamic environment to promote confidence through learning and activities designed to benefit the future workforce requirements.
James Cook University is ranked among the Top 250 Universities in the World according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021, and ranks No. 1 in the world for marine and freshwater biology and No. 2 for biodiversity conservation according to the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2017. JCU holds the distinct honour of being the first recipient of the EduTrust Star in Singapore in 2015. The next intake for JCU degrees will be in July of 2021.
Sri Lanka Technological University is the first research-based, residential, private university with strong industry links locally and internationally offering an extensive repertoire of Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission-approved degrees and diplomas.
