The biography of late L. C. De Silva, former Member of Parliament for Balapitiya and Ambalangoda electorates from 1965 to 1977 was launched on 4 December at the Sri Lanka Foundation auditorium, in the presence of a large gathering.
Southern Provincial Council Member Venerable Baddegama Samitha Thera delivered the keynote address, on the book authored by Kulasena Keeriwelagama, former Director of the National Education Institute.
Additionally, Nugegoda Nalandaramadhipathy Venerable Teeniawela Palitha Thera (Secretary, Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Sangamya; Mahabodhistanadhipathy Chennai, India, and Committee Member of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samasri Dharma Maha Sanga Sabha), Minister for Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunatileke, Ratnapura District MP Vasudeva Nannyakkara and Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya addressed the gathering.
It was the view of all the speakers that present day politicians should emulate L. C. De Silva, a philanthropist, a very illustrious and a humble politician who devoted his whole life for public good, on the work ethics and manner of dealing in public life.
Also, the speakers stressed the importance and significance of the services rendered by L. C. De Silva, to the people of the whole of the Galle District, particularly as the Manager of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda (1955-1961), Chairman of the Watugedera Town Council (1956-1965), President of the Galle District Multi-Purpose Cooperative Movement, and of course as a member of Parliament for Balapitiya and Ambalangoda electorates (1965-1977).
