Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera has ordered acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne to investigate into the two-month delay by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into journalist Keith Noyahr’s abduction case.
AG’s Coordinating Officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne stated the AG had brought to the attention of the acting IGP that the CID’s delay to report back to the AG’s Department was an unfortunate situation.
The AG had previously instructed the CID to update him on how an investigation could be conducted into an individual named Seewali Bulathwatte believed to have links with the State Intelligence Services and two others individuals.
AG de Livera also instructed that the CID must report back to the AG’s Department on the steps it had taken to act on the previous instructions on the Noyahr’s case. The AG also sought the time period required by the CID to carry out the probe and the manner in which the investigations would take place.
