The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs and Livestock Development says the Importation of poultry and eggs has been stopped as the Poultry Producers Association has agreed to sell a kilogram of chicken for Rs. 450 during the festive season.
During a meeting with Minister of Agriculture P Harrison at the Ministry, the Poultry Producers’ Association has agreed to provide the poultry without a shortage during the festive season.
Accordingly, the Maximum Retail Price of a kilogram of skinless chicken will be Rs. 570. The price of an egg is Rs.17. These prices will continue till January.
Officials of the Poultry Producers’ Association have handed over the agreement specifying the prices to the Minister.
The Lanka Egg Producers’ Association has agreed to provide eggs at a maximum retail price of Rs. 17 per egg without a shortage until April.
Earlier the Minister said approval has been received to import chicken and eggs in order to control the prevailing high prices ahead of the festive season. The hotline on 037 22 93 300 was also introduced to solve egg supply related problems.
