Two world-famous ex-hackers and several global and regional experts will be the key attractions at the Daily FT-CICRA Holdings organised fifth annual full-day Cyber Security Summit next Wednesday (27 September) at the Cinnamon Grand followed by the CEO Forum on 28 September.
The two hackers are Darren Martin and Jake Davis from the UK, who were founder members of notorious hacker groups Lulzsec and Anonymous in their teens. In 2011 they were arrested for multiple acts of cyber criminal activity. Darren is famous for hacking the famous UK newspaper The Sun’s website and posting a fake story about media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s body being discovered. Jake was charged with five crimes including unauthorised computer access and conspiracy to carry out a distributed denial of service attack on the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency’s website. Today they help law enforcement authorities and companies in their defence against hackers and cyber crime.
The duo will have a dedicated session at Daily FT and CICRA’s latest push to highlight the importance of cyber security.
At the 27 September evening summit, participants will have a unique experience of the Hangout with Hackers as well.
The summit and the CEO Forum at the Cinnamon Grand will focus on the banking and finance sector, enterprise and industrial cyber security as well as social media and mobile security.
Other global and regional experts who will share key insights include Stephen Dane - Managing Director, Global Security Sales Organisation, Cisco; Shivakumar Sriraman - Chief Risk Officer, Visa Consolidated Support Services; Vincent Turmel - Senior Director, Bayshore Networks Inc, USA; Gabe Goldhirsh - Executive Vice President, Zerofox, USA and Vishak Raman - Director, Security Business, Cisco India and SAARC.
The summit will be inaugurated by Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando whilst Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy will also speak at the event.
Given the line-up of top global and regional experts, the summit will be the largest cyber security platform to find out the latest threats, trends and solutions. The events are endorsed by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure and the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka. CICRA is Sri Lanka’s pioneering cyber security training and consultancy organisation.
The strategic partners of the summit are Cisco and Visa. The other partners are LB Finance Plc, LankaPay, Airtel, Sri Lanka Insurance, Bayshore, ZeroFox, Ezy Intellect, Nations Trust Bank, PrintHub, SriLankan Airlines, Cinnamon Grand, Triad and TV Derana, FM Derana and Ada 24x7.
According to CICRA Group CEO and Director Boshan Dayaratne, cyber security is a vital issue regardless of an entity being Government-owned or private. Incidents of online security breaches, cyber crime and attacks are becoming increasingly common and many individuals as well as organisations, including top international conglomerates, have become seriously affected by them. Such incidents are expected to increase in number and intensity when everything is communicated over the digital space. That is why it’s important for organisations to take measures to safeguard themselves and their clients from any cyber threats which would affect the security and confidentiality of information.
The Cyber Security Summit 2017 is expected to deal with these issues by creating wide awareness through the introduction of best practices to tighten the cyber security of organisations.
“The main objective of the summit is to create awareness on the importance of cyber security among top officers in the top corporate management and IT professionals. It also infuses them with the best practices in acquiring, implementing, managing and measuring information security postures of their organisations and countermeasures. The summit will also expose the latest flaws in information security that affects the global community including corporations and governments. Discussions and presentations will revolve around some of the most malicious attacks and potential threats surrounding the security field,” Dayaratne added.
