Sri Lanka’s death toll of COVID-19 crossed the 500 mark yesterday with health authorities confirming five more fatalities.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, two of the deaths occurred yesterday. They include that of an 82-year-old individual from Nugegoda who tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital. He was then admitted to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, where he died of a kidney infection with COVID-19.
An individual from Barawardena Oya also died yesterday, while receiving treatment at the Badulla General Hospital. The cause of death is cited as cancer and COVID-19. He was 72-years-old.
On 2 March, a 74-year-old individual from Pallekale died of COVID pneumonia and a haemorrhagic stroke while receiving treatment at the Kandy National Hospital.
A 77-year-old individual from Matara died on 25 February while being admitted to the Dambadeniya Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID-19 and exacerbated heart disease.
On 20 December 2020, a 67-year-old individual from Kannaththota died of COVID pneumonia at the Karanawella Base Hospital.
