The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDAD) of Switzerland yesterday welcomed with relief the release on bail of the employee of its embassy in Colombo.

The Swiss authorities welcomed the release of the employee with a message via its official Twitter account @SwissMFA.

Ganiya Banister Francis, the Embassy employee who is at the centre of an abduction debacle, was released on bail on Monday after two weeks in remand custody.

She is facing charges under the Penal Code for exciting or attempting to excite disaffection against the State as well as for giving or fabricating false evidence by making up a story of her abduction.

Swiss authorities have maintained they stand by the version of events that had allegedly taken place on 25 November, the date on which she claims she was abducted and threatened by a group of unknown people before being set free.
