Daily COVID-19 detections exceeded 1,500 for the ninth consecutive day with 1,914 COVID-19 patients detected yesterday.
According to the Department of Government Information, 1,889 of yesterday’s patients were linked to the New Year Cluster. The cluster has expanded to 24,577 patients and the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters have a cumulative patient count of 115,324.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 82,785 COVID-19 patients have been detected from the Peliyagoda cluster, 4,903 patients have been detected from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons have been detected from the Divulapitiya cluster.
A total of 3,762 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 313 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 in the island.
This includes the 1,895 COVID-19 patients detected on Thursday, of which 1,847 were from the New Year cluster, 40 were Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, four were foreigners, and four were from the Prisons cluster.
Thursday’s patients include 326 persons from Colombo, 309 persons from Kalutara, 273 persons from Gampaha, 153 persons from Kandy, and 131 persons from Galle.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, the district distribution of COVID-19 patients detected to date records 35,868 persons from Colombo, 22,227 persons from Gampaha, 9,131 persons from Kalutara, 5,235 persons from Kurunegala, and 5,076 persons from Kandy.
The total number of COVID-19 detections in the island is 121,338.
At present, 18,830 persons are under medical care at 76 treatment centres. This includes 798 persons at the Punani Treatment Centre, 490 persons at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, and 434 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital.
In addition to the active cases, 1,353 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are currently under observation at various treatment centres.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 878 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday as they have recovered from the virus. This includes 98 persons from the Punani Treatment Centre, 60 persons from the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre, and 52 persons from the Ampara Rehabilitation Centre.
The country’s total COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 101,763.
