211 COVID-19 patients detected

A total of 211 COVID-19 positive persons were detected in the island yesterday and a total of 92,917 persons have tested positive for the virus to date.

The patients detected yesterday include 185 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and 12 persons from the Prisons cluster. The triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons have expended to 88,107 patients.

The country’s COVID-19 patient count also includes 2,674 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster and 208 foreigners.

Of the patients, 29,808 were from Colombo, 18,347 were from Gampaha, 6,651 were from Kalutara, 4,198 were from Kandy and 2,866 were from Ratnapura.

At present, 2,939 persons are under medical care, including 338 at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 110 at the Warakapola Base Hospital and 107 at the Krishnapuram Treatment Centre. Hospitals are also monitoring 371 persons suspected of having COVID-19.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 156 persons were discharged yesterday having recovered from the virus. The recoveries include 36 from the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre, 17 from the Warakapola Base Hospital and 15 from the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital. The total COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 89,407.

On Wednesday, 11,095 PCR tests were performed and 264 persons tested positive for COVID-19 the same day. The patients include 237 persons from sub-clusters related to the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster, 19 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, seven persons from the Prisons cluster and one foreign arrival.

Of the patients, 59 were from Gampaha, 52 were from Colombo and 38 were from Jaffna.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that a total of 919,753 persons have been vaccinated to date.
