212 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • Total patient count rises to 95,949, includes 90,693 from triple clusters
  • 55,790 COVID-19 patients detected from Western Province
  • 3,033 persons under medical care, recoveries rise to 92,308

The country’s total COVID-19 patient count yesterday rose to 95,949 with 212 persons testing positive for the virus.

The patients detected yesterday include 153 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and 14 persons from the Prisons cluster. The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, and Prisons clusters have risen to 90,693.

In addition to the triple clusters, 3,044 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their close contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster and 253 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, the district distribution of COVID-19 patients records 30,373 persons from Colombo, 18,636 persons from Gampaha, 6,781 persons from Kalutara, 4,260 persons from Kandy and 3,032 persons from Ratnapura.

The district distribution includes the 117 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, of which 26 were from Jaffna, 21 were from Colombo and 19 were from Nuwara Eliya.

Of the patients, 99 were from sub-clusters related to the Peliyagoda cluster and 18 were Sri Lankan returnees from abroad.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 5,065 PCR tests were performed on Wednesday.

At present, 3,033 persons are under medical care and 202 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation at various hospitals. The active patients include 310 persons at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 163 persons at the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre and 84 persons at the Giriulla Treatment Centre.

Hospitals yesterday discharged 157 persons who recovered from COVID-19. This includes 25 persons from the Giriulla Treatment Centre, 14 persons from the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital and 12 persons from the Hikkaduwa Treatment Centre.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have thus risen to 92,308.
