Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said yesterday that 24 bodies of those who died due to the coronavirus infection that were in the cold storage have been buried after the Government has given approval to bury the infected corpses.
The Army Commander, who is also the head of the National Operations Center for the Prevention of the spread of COVID-19, said all the bodies were kept in cold storage subject to approval by the Ministry of Health.
The bodies of 17 people who died due to corona infection have been buried in the Ottamawadi area in Batticaloa.
The coroner of the area MSM Nazir said that the bodies of nine residents of the Eastern Province were buried last Friday. Bodies of four COVID victims from Nittambuwa, two from Anuradhapura and Thihariya and a resident of Narangoda as well as Colombo were buried on Saturday.
