A total of 286 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total patient count to 88,524.
The COVID-19 patients detected yesterday include 250 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and 24 persons linked to the prisons cluster. The triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons have thus risen to 84,020.
In addition to the triple clusters, 2,386 Sri Lankan arrivals from overseas, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 193 foreigners have tested positive for the virus to date.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 2,619 persons are currently under medical care. The active cases include 135 persons at the Warakapola Base Hospital, 129 persons at the Punani Treatment Centre, and 121 persons at the Krishnapuram Treatment Centre. Hospitals also have 423 persons suspected of having COVID-19 under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 402 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday, including 68 persons from the Punani Treatment Centre, 34 persons from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, 24 persons from the Yakkala Treatment Centre, and 24 persons from the Warakapola Base Hospital. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have thus risen to 85,371.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 7,154 PCR tests were performed on Monday and 331 persons, including 225 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster, 83 overseas arrivals and 23 persons linked to the prisons cluster, tested positive for COVID-19 that day.
Of the patients detected on Monday, 49 were from Matara, 34 were from Matale, 34 were from Gampaha, 28 were from Colombo, and 13 were from Galle.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 28,904 persons from Colombo District, 17,374 persons from Gampaha District, 6,463 persons from Kalutara District, 4,108 persons from Kandy District, and 2,640 persons from Ratnapura District have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.
