Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 patient count yesterday exceeded 87,000 with the detection of 297 patients.
The patients detected yesterday include 236 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and 55 persons linked to the Prisons cluster. This brings the triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons to 82,935 patients.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 2,244 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 187 foreigners are also among the COVID-19 patients detected in the island.
A total of 87,286 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 to date. Of this, 2,803 persons are currently under medical care. The active patients include 169 persons at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 143 persons at the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 133 persons at the Kahawatte Treatment Centre.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 372 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are also under observation at various treatment centres.
Hospitals yesterday discharged 397 persons, which brought the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 83,958. Yesterday’s recoveries include 97 persons from the Hambantota District General Hospital, 37 persons from the Kahawatte Treatment Centre, and 23 persons from the Panideniya Treatment Centre.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 10,819 PCR tests were performed on Thursday and 304 patients were detected that day.
Of the patients detected yesterday, 75 were from Colombo, 49 were from Galle, 43 were from Gampaha, 19 were from Kandy, and 17 were from Kalutara. The patients detected from Colombo include 18 persons from Colombo 1, six persons from Mirihana, and six persons from Wellampitiya.
A total of 52,337 COVID-19 patients have been detected from the Western Province to date. This includes 28,752 persons from Colombo District, 17,204 persons from Gampaha District, and 6,381 persons from Kalutara District.
The district distribution of COVID-19 patients also records 4,072 persons from Kandy, 2,507 persons form Ratnapura, and 2,461 persons from Kurunegala.
