The country’s total COVID-19 patient count rose to 83,870 with the detection of 318 COVID-19 patients yesterday.
Among yesterday’s patients are 308 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and nine persons linked to the Prisons cluster. This brings the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons triple clusters to 79,709 patients.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 2,065 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 181 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.
Of the total COVID-19 patients, 28,173 were detected from Colombo District, 16,692 were detected from Gampaha District, and 6,152 were detected from Kalutara District. A total of 51,017 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 from Western Province to date.
The district distribution of patients by the Epidemiology Unit also records 3,932 persons from Kandy, 2,316 persons from Kurunegala, and 2,086 persons from Ratnapura.
The district distribution includes the 310 COVID-19 patients detected on Monday, of which 60 were from Colombo, 40 were from Gampaha, 34 were from Ratnapura, 24 were from Jaffna, and 19 were from Nuwara Eliya.
The patients detected from Colombo include 29 from Talangama, eight from Colombo 1, and six from Maharagama.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 3,367 persons are currently under medical care. This includes 225 persons at the Hambantota District General Hospital, 167 persons at the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 163 persons at the Giriulla Treatment Centre. Hospitals are also monitoring 438 persons suspected of having COVID-19.
The total number of COVID-19 recoveries crossed the 80,000 mark, with 598 persons leaving hospitals yesterday. This includes 60 persons from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, 51 persons from the Hambantota District General Hospital, and 42 persons from the Kahawatte Treatment Centre.
A total of 80,020 persons have recovered from the virus to date.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 9,949 PCR tests were performed on Monday.
Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) yesterday stated that the Galhinna and Palliyakotuwa Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Kandy District have been isolated until further notice.
