Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 patient count crossed the 84,000 mark with the detection of 356 patients yesterday.
The patients detected yesterday include 335 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and the triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons have expanded to 80,044 patients.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 84,226 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 to date. This includes 2,066 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 181 foreigners.
The district distribution of COVID-19 patients records 28,239 persons from Colombo, 16,715 persons from Gampaha, 6,164 persons from Kalutara, 3,938 persons from Kandy, and 2,353 persons from Kurunegala.
This includes the 318 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, of which 72 were from Ratnapura, 63 were from Colombo, and 57 were from Gampaha. Among the patients detected from Colombo District are 19 persons from Piliyandala, nine persons from Talangama, and six persons from Colombo-1.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 10,786 PCR tests were performed on Tuesday.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 3,305 persons are currently under medical care, including 225 persons at the Hambantota District General Hospital, 174 persons at the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 173 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital.
While 29 ICU beds are currently in use, hospitals are also monitoring 527 persons suspected of having COVID-19. Hospitals also discharged 417 COVID-19 recoveries yesterday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the island to 80,437.
Persons discharged yesterday include 38 persons from the Panideniya Treatment Centre, 34 persons from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, and 32 persons from the Kopai Treatment Centre.
