Over 500 persons tested positive for COVID-19 during the weekend, pushing the country’s total COVID-19 patient count to 92,088.
A total of 249 patients were detected yesterday, including 168 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster.
On Saturday, 278 persons tested positive for COVID-19, of which 251 were detected from sub-clusters related to the Peliyagoda cluster and nine were from the prisons cluster. Fourteen Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and four foreigners were also among the patients detected on Saturday.
The patients include 88 persons from Jaffna, 29 persons from Gampaha, and 28 persons from Ratnapura.
The Health Promotion Bureau states that 11,671 PCR tests were performed on Saturday.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, the country’s local cases include 87,138 persons linked to the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons clusters, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, and 651 persons from the Kandakadu cluster. Of the imported cases, 2,587 are Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 200 are foreigners.
The district distribution of patients shows 29,636 persons from Colombo, 18,272 persons from Gampaha, and 6,611 persons from Kalutara.
At present, 2,904 persons are under medical care. The active cases include 232 persons at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 122 persons at the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre, and 111 persons at the Warakapola Base Hospital.
Hospitals are also monitoring 411 persons suspected of having COVID-19.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 235 persons were discharged yesterday having recovered from the virus. This includes 19 persons from the Panideniya Treatment Centre, 19 persons from the Rambukkana Treatment Centre, and 17 persons from the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre.
The total COVID-19 recoveries in the country currently stands at 88,623.
In terms of the COVID-19 immunisation program being carried out in the country, 894,053 persons have received the COVID-19 vaccine to date. This includes the 9,889 persons vaccinated on Saturday.
Reports also stated that 600,000 doses of Sinopharm developed by the China National Pharmaceutical Group were delivered to Beijing Capital Airport yesterday and were scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (31 March).
