7 more die of COVID; toll now 330

Health authorities yesterday confirmed seven COVID-19 deaths, bringing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 330.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, the COVID-19 deaths confirmed yesterday include one that occurred within the day, where a 32-year-old individual from Ragama died of acute COVID pneumonia, high blood pressure, and asthma. 

The individual tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ragama and was then transferred to the Colombo East Base Hospital and later the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. However, he passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital’s intensive care unit.

On 1 February, an 18-month-old child died of COVID pneumonia while receiving treatment at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.

The same day, a 77-year-old individual from Gelioya died of blood poisoning associated with COVID pneumonia, acute diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney disease. He was transferred from the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital to the Teldeniya Base Hospital, where he passed away. Health authorities also confirmed that an individual from Nittambuwa died on 1 February. The individual tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo and was transferred to the Pimbura District Hospital. However, she died of COVID pneumonia, anaemia, diabetes, and heart disease. She was 80-years-old.

On 31 January, a 73-year-old individual from Wattegama died of COVID pneumonia, high blood pressure, and acute diabetes. She tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Kandy General Hospital and was transferred to the Teldeniya Base Hospital, where she passed away.

The same day, an 82-year-old individual from Colombo 15 died of COVID pneumonia, high blood pressure, and a stroke at home.

The final death confirmed by health authorities yesterday was that of a 67-year-old individual from Weligama. She died of COVID pneumonia and haemorrhagic stroke on 29 January while receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
