Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 patient count yesterday exceeded 70,000 with the detection of 887 patients within the day.
According to the Department of Government Information, 859 persons were associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and 19 persons were linked to the Prisons cluster. The triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons on 4 October has thus increased to 66,225 patients.
The total patient count also includes 1,937 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster and 150 foreigners.
Of the 70,235 persons who have tested positive for the virus to date, 24,958 persons are from the Colombo District, 13,896 persons are from the Gampaha District, 4,739 persons are from the Kalutara District, 2,815 persons are from the Kandy District and 1,605 persons are from the Galle District.
This includes the 772 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, of which 245 were from Colombo, 214 were from Gampaha, 53 were from Ratnapura, 49 were from Kalutara and 41 were from Kurunegala.
The patients detected from Colombo on Sunday include 25 from Colombo 1, 22 from Colombo 8 and 17 from Wellampitiya.
Of the total patient count, 5,729 persons are currently under medical care. This includes 352 persons at the Giriulla Treatment Centre, 292 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital and 252 persons at the Panideniya Treatment Centre. Hospitals are also monitoring 711 persons suspected of having COVID-19.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 64,141 persons have recovered from the virus to date. Among persons discharged yesterday are 54 persons from the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre, 43 persons from the Karandeniya Treatment Centre and 41 persons from the Panideniya Treatment Centre.
In addition to this, the Health Promotion Bureau states that 1,817,018 PCR tests have been performed to date, including 12,145 tests on Sunday.
