A total of 997 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the country’s total patient count to 102,376.
The patients detected yesterday include 944 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and eight persons from the Prisons cluster. The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons clusters have expanded to 96,698 patients.
In addition to this, 3,428 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 291 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 in the island to date.
Three COVID-related deaths were recorded yesterday, increasing the death toll to 647.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 31,578 persons from Colombo District, 19,359 persons from Gampaha District, 7,109 persons from Kalutara District, 4,364 persons from Kandy District, and 3,869 persons from Kurunegala District have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.
This includes the 793 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, of which 226 persons were from Colombo, 82 persons were from Gampaha, and 71 persons were from Kurunegala. The patients detected from Colombo District include 23 from Moratuwa, 19 from Piliyandala, and 16 from Avissawella.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 13,919 PCR tests were carried out on Sunday.
At present, 7,152 persons are under medical care and 939 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation. The active patients include 399 persons at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, 368 persons at the Giriulla Treatment Centre, and 289 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 266 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday having recovered from the virus. This includes 38 persons from the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre, 26 persons from the Giriulla Treatment Centre, and 25 persons from the Warakapola Base Hospital.
A total of 94,577 persons have recovered from COVID-19 to date.
Meanwhile, the main office of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau located in Battaramulla will remain closed today and tomorrow following the detection of a COVID-19 positive staff member. The Battaramulla office will reopen on Thursday after the premises are disinfected as per health guidelines.
The Public Administration Ministry stated they will today issue a circular on limiting the number of staff members working in Government offices at a time.
