The newly appointed Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Norway Godfrey Cooray assumed duties at the Mission on 15 June 2020.
His assumption of duties was marked by a simple ceremony with the lighting of traditional oil lamp, followed by religious observances of Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu and chanting of Pirith by Maha Sangha.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador-designate Godfrey Cooray set out his plans for strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Norway and emphasised the need for vigorous promotion of fisheries, trade and investment between the two countries.
Godfrey Cooray has been enrolled to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law in year 1979. He is a leading senior lawyer with an extensive practice of 40 years and successful criminal and civil senior Counsel.
The Ambassador-designate is a former Council Member for the governing Council of the National Institute of Social Development Ministry of Social Services and former Chairman of International Relations Committee of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) in year 2010.
The Ambassador-designate also held a position as the President of ‘Habitat for Humanity’ Sri Lanka and Senior Consultant to the Executive Advisory Board of National Office of Catholic Social Communication in Sri Lanka from year 2018 to current.
