Ranil Jayawardena, a British MP of Sri Lankan origin was appointed as the UK ‘s new Trade Minister by Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday.
“It’s a great privilege to have been asked by @Boris Johnson to serve as a @TradeGovUK Minister at this crucial time,” Jayawardena said on his Twitter account soon after been named to the post.
Ranil Jayawardena, who has been the Member of Parliament for North East Hampshire since 2015, was appointed in 2018 by then-British Prime Minister Theresa May as her trade envoy for
Sri Lanka.
He visited the country several times, including once to visit the Port City.
