Three new COVID-19 patients were identified in the country yesterday, bringing the total case count to 3,327. The three were recently repatriated to Sri Lanka from Kuwait, Maldives and United Arab Emirates, the Department of Government Information said.
A 57-year-old Russian airline crew member who tested positive for COVID-19 at a private medical facility on Wednesday is undergoing treatment the Hambantota hospital, Matara Public Health Inspectors (PHI) told the press yesterday.
According to the Matara PHIs, around 150 contacts of the patient has been identified and their information shared with health authorities. Several employees of the hotel the patient was staying at and several drivers they employed have been moved in to quarantine as a precautionary measure.
The Russian national has been subjected to a second PCR test yesterday with the results expected today.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,352 Sri Lanka returnees and 58 foreigners are included in the imported cases, while the local cases include 950 Navy personnel and their close contacts and 651 persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre.
Of the Kandakadu cluster, four persons are still under medical case, the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated. A total of 171 persons are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals, including 61 persons at the Welikanda Base Hospitals, 49 persons at the national Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), and 30 persons at the Iranawila Hospital.
There are also 45 persons suspected of having COVID-19 being monitored at various hospitals.
The Epidemiology Unit added that the number of COVID-19 recoveries rose to 3,142, with the recovery of 13 persons yesterday. Of them, seven persons were discharged from the NIID, four persons from the Iranawila Hospital, one person from the Welikanda Base Hospital, and one person from the Colombo East Base Hospital.
Meanwhile, the NOCPCO added that 44,115 persons have left quarantine centres to date, including 205 persons who left centres yesterday. A further 6,927 persons are currently undergoing quarantine at 68 centres in the country.
In addition to this, 287 persons from the United Arab Emirates, 63 persons from Qatar, and six persons from Abu Dhabi arrived in the island yesterday and have been directed to quarantine centres.
