COVID-19 death toll increases to 165

Five COVID-19 deaths were confirmed by health authorities yesterday, bringing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 165.

According to the Department of Government Information, a 76-year-old resident of Colombo 15 yesterday died at the Homagama Base Hospital, where he was transferred after testing positive for COVID-19 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. He died due to kidney disease exacerbated by COVID-19 and COVID pneumonia.

An individual from Maharagama also passed away yesterday. He was 50 years old and was transferred from the Colombo South Teaching Hospital to the Homagama Base Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. He died of COVID pneumonia. The third death that occurred yesterday was of an 86-year-old individual from Wathupitiwala. He died at home, and the cause of death is cited as kidney disease exacerbated by COVID-19. 

A resident of Maggona also died at home, and the cause of death is cited as a heart attack caused by high blood pressure and COVID-19. The individual was 86 years old and died on 15 December.

Health authorities stated that a 72-year-old man from Agalawatte died while being admitted to the Agalawatte Base Hospital on 11 December. He died of a heart attack caused by high blood pressure and COVID-19.
