The country’s COVID-19 death toll yesterday rose to 287 with health authorities confirming four COVID-19-related deaths.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, an individual from Beruwala tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID). However, she died of COVID-pneumonia, blood poisoning and cancer yesterday. She was 49 years old.
On 24 January, a 43-year-old individual from Deraniyagala died while receiving treatment at the Homagama Base Hospital, where she was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID-pneumonia, blood poisoning and multi-organ dysfunction.
The same day, an individual from Warakagoda passed away at the Homagama Base Hospital, where he was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The individual was 76 years old and died of blood poisoning, multi-organ dysfunction and COVID-pneumonia.
The fourth death confirmed by health authorities is that of a 71-year-old individual from Colombo 8. The individual tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID-19 with heart failure.
