The country’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 323, with health authorities confirming seven COVID-19-related deaths yesterday.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, four of the seven deaths occurred yesterday.
An individual from Nugegoda was identified as COVID-19 positive while receiving treatment at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital. However, he died of COVID-pneumonia and cancer yesterday. He was 69 years old.
Health authorities also confirm that a 69-year-old individual from Udugampola died yesterday while being admitted to the Gampaha District Hospital. The cause of death is cited as a heart attack with COVID-19.
A 73-year-old individual from Madawala yesterday died of COVID-pneumonia and heart failure while receiving treatment at the Teldeniya Base Hospital.
An individual from Gelioya also died yesterday. According to health authorities, the individual was transferred from the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital to the Teldeniya Base Hospital, where he died of blood poisoning with COVID-pneumonia, acute diabetes and kidney disease. He was 77 years old.
On Sunday, a 75-year-old individual from Wattala died while receiving treatment at the Colombo East Base Hospital, where she was transferred from the Colombo North Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID-pneumonia with complications of kidney disease and trauma of blood poisoning.
An individual from Colombo 2 also died on Sunday. The individual tested positive for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Colombo and was admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital, where he died of COVID-pneumonia with acute lung infection and heart disease.
The Department of Government Information also states that a 39-year-old individual from Polonnaruwa died on 30 January at his place of residence. The cause of death is cited as multi-organ dysfunction with blood poisoning, bronchopneumonia with COVID-19 and kidney infection.
