Five COVID-19 deaths were yesterday confirmed by health authorities increasing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 532.
According to the Department of Government Information, a 94-year-old individual from Kalutara North tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Moratuwa Base Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital, where she died of blood poisoning, COVID-19, and acute diabetes on Sunday.
On 13 March, an 86-year-old individual from Jaffna died of COVID pneumonia and blood poisoning while receiving treatment at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
The same day, a 76-year-old individual from Gampaha died of multi-organ dysfunction, COVID pneumonia, and acute diabetes while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID). The individual was transferred to the NIID after testing positive for COVID-19 at the Gampaha District Hospital.
On 10 March, an individual from Pamunugama died of COVID-19, high blood pressure, and acute diabetes at home. He was 78 years old.
The Department of Government Information adds that a 61-year-old individual from Kochchikade died at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital on 8 March. The cause of death was cited as acute kidney damage and liver disease.
