Three COVID-19 deaths were confirmed by health authorities yesterday increasing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 591.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, an 89-year-old individual from Homagama tested positive for COVID-19 white receiving medical care at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital. The individual was transferred to the Colombo East Base Hospital, where he died of trauma of blood poisoning, a bacterial infection with COVID-19, acute kidney damage, and heart disease on 6 April.
An individual from Thanamalvila tested positive for the virus while receiving treatment at the Hambantota District General Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital. However, on 6 April, he died of COVID pneumonia and a secondary heart attack. The individual was 38 years old.
On 3 April, a 60-year-old individual from Hettipola died while receiving treatment at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia, kidney dysfunction, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
