Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) earns the highest revenue for the Treasury, earning over Rs. 148 billion in 2017, Petroleum Resources Development Minister Arjuna Ranatunga claimed this week.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony for CPC employees, the Minister said that in 2016 the institution earned Rs. 148 billion in revenue while in 2017 also it was Rs. 148 billion. Further he said that within the first six months of 2018 that amount was Rs. 68 billion. “We have heard that State workers have been highly paid. No one understands the risks taken by CPC workers. CPC doesn’t mean fuelling at a fuel station. It has a procedure filled with peril. As a result of their dedication, our institution can give the highest revenue to the Treasury. A lot of people are expecting to sell these institutions if they are not making profits,” Minister stated.
“When I was the Minister of Ports and Shipping, we were able to make profits. I urge all workers to protect this institution. This task can’t done by only me, the Deputy Minister. If we don’t protect it this time, there might be another group to sell this in future. If such things happen, both of these institutions will be bankrupt,” the Minister added.
CPC on Thursday held a felicitation ceremony for employees in appreciation of services rendered with the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Deputy Minister Dr. Anoma Gamage, Secretary Upali Marasinghe, Chairman Dammika Ranatunga, Managing Director Neil Jayasekara and other dignitaries attended the occasion.
