Sri Lanka’s Consul General in Guangzhou Priyangika Dharmasena, participated as Chief Guest on 9 January 2019, at the welcoming ceremony organised by the China-Sri Lanka Joint Centre for Education and Research (CSL-CER) for Sri Lankan students who have studied at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and will continue their studies in their respective specialised fields in areas including oceanography, geology, environmental science at the CSL-CER in Guangzhou.
The Consul General in her speech appreciated the continuous warm hospitality and assistance given to Sri Lankan students by the Institute throughout the years. She welcomed the commitment of the Institute, in promoting scientific cooperation with Sri Lankan universities and institutes in education and research and hoped for further collaboration for fruitful outcomes. Noting the role played by the Institute, in association with the University of Ruhuna, for strengthening marine research in Sri Lanka, she thanked the Institute for the support to develop the area.
The Consul General also noted the gradual increase in the number of Sri Lankan students studying at the University of Chinese Academy of Science and at the CSL-CER, indicating the growing interest shown in such internationally important areas of study as oceanography, geology and environmental science.
CSL-SER Director Prof. Dongxiao Wang apprised the Consul General of the establishment of CSL-CER and its activities and requested the continuous support by the Consul General to the Institute and its students. The Consul General also met the Sri Lankan students during the event.
