The Supreme Court on 7 March fixed to be mentioned on 12 June the contempt of Court on the alleged offence of Court against Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake.
The Bench comprised Chief Justice Nalin Perera, Justices Prasanna S. Jayawardena and Vijith K. Malalgoda.
The Rules were already read to the Accused Respondent Ranjan Ramanayake. He had pleaded not guilty.
Attorney General on 30 July 2018 furnished the draft Rule against Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake complaining of him for having committed an alleged offence of Contempt of Court.
The Court on 18 June 2018 directed the Attorney General to furnish the draft Rule against the Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake to show cause as to why he should be charged in respect of two petitions complaining of him for having committed an alleged offence of Contempt of Court.
President’s Counsel Faisz Musthapha appeared for Ranjan Ramanayake. Senior Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Rajaratnam appeared for the Attorney General.
